International Perspectives in Leadership and Service (UNIV 3110)

San Jose, Costa Rica
Join the Hargis Leadership Institute and Student Volunteer Center as we tour the tropical country of Costa Rica! Students embarking on this trip will gain an understanding of culturally diverse perspectives on community engagement and leadership through partaking in local community service projects and interacting with local leaders. Additionally, students will visit and tour San Jose, including taking a Costa Rican cooking class and dance class. Together, we will explore the La Paz waterfall, tour a coffee and pineapple plantation, visit a toucan rescue ranch, and see the La Carpintera central valley forest reserve. This opportunity is open to any student actively enrolled at OSU.

McKnight Scholarship (UNIV 3001)

Italy and Greece
One significant perk of the McKnight Scholarship program is that it offers scholarship recipients the opportunity to study abroad. The program offers one fully funded opportunity to travel with peers within the program. During the summer of 2023, the McKnight scholars will focus on leadership as it was seen and used in ancient Rome and Greece, and how these early concepts of leadership have affected the ways in which we lead today. It will have a philosophical approach on leadership. Cities we will visit include Florence, Rome, Vatican City, Delphi, and Athens, as well as visits to Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete. Major sites include the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Parthenon. This opportunity is exclusive to students enrolled in the McKnight Scholarship program.

President's Leadership Council (UNIV 3110)

Zimbabwe, Africa
Members of the President's Leadership Council (PLC) at OSU have the opportunity to travel to Zimbabwe, Africa and learn from OSU Alumna, Dr. Tererai Trent. During their time in Zimbabwe, students will engage in seminars with Dr. Trent and interact with her work in rural villages, all while gaining an understanding of international and culturally diverse perspectives on ethical leadership. Additionally, students will visit the breathtaking Victoria Falls waterfall, and tour the towns of Harare and Matau. This opportunity is exclusive to students enrolled in the President's Leadership Council.
